The UK has a coastline of almost 20,000 miles, with the vast majority home to high density population centres.
As well as dealing with the trials and tribulations that come with living in a coastal centre during a period of drastic climate change, such as severe erosion, coastal storms, and the rising threats of sea levels, pollution is also an ever constant issue.
Sources of pollution can come from a variety of places, and much of it is considered minor when isolated. However, when combined, they prove to have an unprecedented impact on our society.
One main source of pollution that this challenge aims to address is pollution from agricultural run-off. This can occur from farms using pesticides and chemicals that end up draining into water sources such as rivers and streams. This eventually leads to our oceans, and can cause great impact on very sensitive areas of nature, primarily located at estuaries
So far, Geovation has supported over 130 businesses, creating 1700 jobs for the UK. This challenge aims to continue this growth in funding and support, while preserving the fragile ecosystems located on the british coastlines.
