Black Country takes another step toward leading a clean growth revolution

Media release: 2 January 2021

Led by the Black Country Consortium, the Repowering the Black Country partnership includes local businesses Kew Technology, Pro Enviro and CR Plus, supported by specialists from the University of Birmingham and WMG, University of Warwick, as well as companies specialising in urban agriculture (District Eating) and energy investment (M3MAS).

  • The Black Country awarded funding from UK Research and Innovation to take another step toward supporting clean industrial growth across the area.
  • This funding will give energy-intense businesses and local authorities across the Black Country access to a team of specialists who can help improve process efficiency and plan industrial developments to deliver clean, cost-effective growth.
  • Repowering the Black Country aims to make the Black Country one of the most attractive places in the world to invest in manufacturing by ensuring local businesses have access to competitive, zero carbon energy before national and international targets of 2040 and beyond.

The Black Country Consortium has been awarded funding from UK Research and Innovation (UKRI) to support clean industrial growth through the Repowering the Black Country Project. This second round of funding, focused on helping the UK achieve net zero emissions as part of Government’s Clean Growth Strategy, will support businesses and local authorities in developing plans for zero carbon hubs and reducing energy costs across the Black Country.
